Did you guys see? I updated my header on the blog and brought the mermaid from the old layout back with some color updates, haha! I’ve been a big fan of indie bath & body products lately so I was really excited when Charming Handmade Magic contacted me to review some of their products (which they call luxury spells and potions- I love that)! This company is brand new on the indie scene but is certainly starting off strong.
A few general things about the company, first- each bomb has a butter and three different oils used to make them super moisturizing. Charming Handmade Magic uses skin-safe fragrance oils and food-safe colorants to avoid any skin irritations- she also offers a selection of all natural bombs that use only natural colorants. If you don’t like glitter in your mani bombs, you’re in luck- Charming Handmade Magic never uses glitter, only candy sprinkles for decoration. Let’s take a look at the individual products sent!
Bergamot Cuticle Balm
The balm has a soft consistency, a little on the greasy side but it feels very moisturizing! I also personally love the smell of Bergamot- earthy and citrus-y at the same time! The scent on this balm is subtle but nice and I think would be good for those who have sensitivity to really strong scents.
Ingredients: Shea Butter, Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Bergamot Essential Oil
Oatmeal Hand Scrub
I have never used a product with oatmeal in it but had always heard it was great for sensitive and dry skin (of which I have both), so I was excited to try this! You get your skin wet with warm water (or you can warm the mixture itself), apply it to your skin and exfoliate in circular motions. With the scrub still on your hands, you either wrap them in towels or apply moisturizing gloves for ten minutes, then wash it off.
I have to admit, although it sounded great in theory, this was probably my least favorite of the products. The mixture was not sticky enough to stay on the skin and would fall right off so I lost a lot of it just trying to get it on my fingers and quickly wrapping a towel around to hold it in and even then only ended up with a couple of oats per finger and could only do one hand at a time. I think this needs more of a wet base to be a hand scrub- I think an oatmeal hand or bath soak would be nice, though! The smell was nice and lingered on my hands.
Ingredients: Chopped Oats, Oatmeal, Sea Salt, Witch Hazel, Almond Oil, Fragrance Oil.
Bergamot & Tea Tree Shower Bomb
I’d never tried a shower bomb before so I was really excited to try these! You place this directly in the stream of hot water in the shower (but away from the drain). This made the whole shower smell awesome, very fresh and clean.
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate , Citric Acid, Bergamot Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Colorant
Blood Orange & Clove All Natural Shower Bomb
You use this the same way as the one above! I mostly smelled clove on this one (not a bad thing, I love clove-scented things!) and I think it would be great for those who aren’t a fan of the typical sweet or floral scents.
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate , Citric Acid, Blood Orange Essential Oil, Clove Essential Oil, Lemon Peel Powder
Limebasilmangosaurus Mani/Pedi Soak
DINOSAURS! Can you see them? Kind of hard to see them in the photo but this soak is filled with super cute dino sprinkles! To use this, you fill a bowl with hot water and pour it in! You can soak either your hands or feet for 15-20 minutes. Once you’re done, towel dry and avoid washing your hands or feet for at least 30 minutes to give the oils time to sink in. This smelled great- really fresh and nice!
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate , Corn Starch, Epsom Salts, Citric Acid, Kokum Butter, Safflower Oil, Babassu Oil, Coconut Oil, Fragrance Oil, Sugar, Colorant
Peachy Potion Mani/Pedi Bomb
Same as the soak except this one comes in a cute heart shape! Generous size, definitely good for soaking your feet or hands. The peach scent on this one was strong and pleasant. This was the most oily mani bomb I’ve used! You can definitely feel the addition of all the oils and the butters, it feels super moisturizing and made my hands feel silky smooth! You can check out a video of this one fizzing away on instagram here.
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate , Corn Starch, Epsom Salts, Citric Acid, Mango Butter, Macadamia Oil, Safflower Oil, Avocado Oil, Fragrance Oil, Sugar, Colorant
Lavender & Honeydew All Natural Mani/Pedi Bomb
This smelled really amazing! Not a combination I see often but it was really nice- I mostly smell the floral lavender scent but the honeydew gives it a hint of something else.
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate , Corn Starch, Epsom Salts, Citric Acid, Mango Butter, Carnelina Oil, Almond Oil, Safflower Oil, Fragrance Oil, Alfalfa Powder, Lavender Buds
Overall, this was a great first impression of the brand for me. Everything smelled awesome (and ‘natural’ if that makes sense- they were all subtle and nice and didn’t smell fake) and I love the variety of products currently in the shop (there’s more to come, too- she’s currently working on bath bombs, sugar scrubs and lip scrubs). There are a few bombs that are video-game themed/shaped which I was totally geeking out at- they’d make great gifts! You can find everything I reviewed here and more in her shop.
What do you think of this brand? Have you tried any handmade bath & body products before? Let me know in the comments!
