Last month I showed you the first of the new Aliquid Lacquer monthly polishes (all based around a Roman festival or holiday), and I’m back today to show you the second!
Aliquid Lacquer Compitalia is described as a muted orchid pink with copper, green and gold microglitter and black, copper and purple flecks. I used two coats for the below photos along with Out The Door. The formula was perfect, not too thick or thin and went on easily. This is so gorgeous! Feminine but not boring. I did have to color edit it a bit as it wanted to show as a darker purple- I’d say it’s still just a touch pinker than my photos.
From the maker:
The Romans believed that every place had its own guardian spirits, called Lares. During Compitalia, at the beginning of January, each Roman neighborhood honored its own Lares, whose shrines were located at major crossroads (compites). A pig was sacrificed at the shrine, and each family in the neighborhood offered the gods a honey-cake. The Lares were associated with the underworld, and during Compitalia people also hung woolen figurines on their doors as offerings to any malevolent spirits.
Compitalia was a working-class holiday. It was mainly funded and celebrated by plebeians, the lowest class of citizen, and the officials in charge of the religious rites to the Lares were actually freedmen and slaves. We can imagine Compitalia as a big block party for the whole neighborhood, where people had some opportunity for free speech and dissent. When Augustus became the first emperor, he reformed the festival to worship the Lares of his own household.
Overall, I think this is another gorgeous polish and I think this series is so much fun, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. This releases today in her shop so be sure to pick it up if you’re wanting a bottle!
What do you think of this polish? Excited to see what she has in store for next month? Have you tried any other polishes from Aliquid Lacquer? Let me know in the comments!
