Nixie purchased by me. Mermaid Decals provided by Vynails/Royal Lacquer as a gift.
Hey, everyone! We are finally mostly caught up on the vault again so as of today I’ll be returning to my regular posting schedule, 3 times a week (mon-weds-fri) instead of 5. I’ve been keeping an eye on Aurora Lacquers lately and finally had to pull the trigger on a purchase when she came out with her summer collection, The Mystic Mermaid (okay, you know where this is going….).
Of course I had to pick at least one up, and decided to grab Nixie. Let’s take a look!
The formula was good, a little on the thick side but still easy to work with. Because it is so packed with glitter, It dries a little on the textured side so I wouldn’t recommend wearing it without a nice, thick top coat. I also loved her inspiration behind the name:
Nixie nix-xie as a girl’s name is of Old German origin, and the meaning of Nixie is “water sprite”. Usually beautiful, and unlike pixies, nixies are belligerent toward men.
I also thought it’d be fun to use those mermaid decals Vynails/Royal Lacquer gave to me as a gift! On my accent nail here I had Nixie as a base, applied the decal and painted Mermaid Tears on top & then removed the decal!
The decal was great, really easy to get off the sheet and to apply flush with the nail. This was my first time ever using a decal (edit: this post has been in the vault for awhile so you’ve already seen my second time using one on the blog!) , and other than it getting a little bit jacked up around where I pulled it up, it worked great! With that said, anyone have any tips for me? How do you get the decal up without messing it up around that edge? I used small tweezers but still messed it up a little bit. I’ve heard that you can ‘pinch’ it with the tweezers in the middle, does anyone else use that method?
Overall, I was really happy with this polish and see myself wearing it often! I definitely recommend this brand & can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
