Hey, everyone! As you know, Aliquid Lacquer is one of my favorite brands so I am always super excited when she asks me to swatch her new stuff! Her newest collection, Two Pleasant Peninsulas is a love letter to the state of Michigan and is already released in her store, so you can purchase any of these beauties as soon as you want to. I was sent I’m Heading Straight To Mackinac, Lake Michigan Sunset and Motor City to swatch, along with a new scent from her lip balm line. Let’s take a look!
Aliquid Lacquer I’m Heading Strait to Mackinac is a serene blue with a soft holographic effect and flecks of green, blue and silver. I used two coats for the below photos, along with Out The Door. The holo effect is very subtle, but pretty! The formula was fantastic, a little patchy on the first coat but smooths out entirely by the second. It’s just a bit dustier in person than in my photos- the bottle shot is probably the most color accurate. Alison had this to say about the inspiration:
The two peninsulas of Michigan are separated by the narrow Straits of Mackinac, where Lakes Michigan and Huron meet. The Mackinac Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, connects the two halves of the state. One of Michigan’s top tourist attractions, Mackinac Island, lies just a few miles from the bridge.
Aliquid Lacquer Lake Michigan Sunset is a sheer slate grey with flecks of gold, orange and pink. The colors in this polish come from a photo she took on vacation in 2008 in the “pinky” of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, photo shown below (& of course credited to the maker). I used four thin coats for the below photos, along with Out The Door. The formula was great, not too thick or thin and applied easily. It is a bit on the sheer side, so if you can’t stand any VNL you might want to layer it, but it was opaque enough at four coats not to bother me and you could probably get away with three in regular lighting.

Aliquid Lacquer Motor City is a black jelly with lots of metallic and holographic circles and squares in various sizes, plus silver flakes. The polish is an homage to Detroit, home of the automobile and Motown music! I used three coats for the below photos, along with Gelous + Out The Door.
The formula was great, not too thick or thin and the glitter came out easily! I did have to fish for about half of the largest circles you see here, but that’s pretty standard and I also forgot to set my bottle upside down for a bit before using it (which I usually do with anything with larger glitter).
|The bottle shot photo kept coming out brownish, but it’s black, I promise.|
Along with each of her new releases, she usually also puts out some new scents for her lip balm, which I have raved about previously. It is amazing and heavily used by me!! She graciously sent me the new Maple scent, which I found to be absolutely incredible.
I’m not usually a fan of food scents OR very sweet scents but there is something about this that is just so incredible. The downside is that as soon as you put it on, you will want pancakes. From her shop:
This scent will make you crave a big pancake breakfast! Michigan is one of the top ten maple producers in the U.S., making about 90,000 gallons of syrup per year.
Overall, another fantastic, unique collection by an awesome brand! I highly recommend these and actually purchased a couple additional shades from the collection. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
