Hi, everyone! A new-to-me indie Northern Star Polish recently contacted me to see if I’d be interested in sharing some swatches from their upcoming summer collection as well as trying out their cuticle oil. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the brand, so I definitely had to say yes!
Kristin sent me Burning Embers, Beach Baby, Night Swimming and Electric Lime as well as her cuticle oil in the ginger grapefruit scent.
Northern Star Polish opened shop in March 2012 & all their polishes are hand mixed in small batches and Big-4 free. She ships worldwide and offers a flat rate of $3.00 for US shipments and free shipping worldwide for all orders over $50.00.
The colors shown here are part of her new summer collection, which includes both polish and new cuticles oil scents, and which will be released at noon on June 15th. Let’s take a look!
Northern Star Polish Burning Embers is a gorgeous red holo with tiny holo microglitter. I used two coats for the below photos along with Out The Door, although it was pretty much opaque in one. The formula was fantastic, not too thick or thin and applied easily.
Northern Star Polish Beach Baby is a beautiful orange with gold shimmer. I used three coats for the below photos along with Out The Door, you could probably get away with two coats in regular lighting but I had a tiny bit of VNL at two. The formula was great, not too thick or thin and applied easily. Orange is not always the greatest color for my skin tone but this one didn’t look too bad!
Northern Star Polish Night Swimming is a lovely periwinkle with purple shimmer. I used two coats for the below photos along with Out The Door. The formula was okay, thicker than the rest but not too hard to work with. It does dry matte naturally, so you’ll definitely want to use top coat for a high-shine finish! As with most colors this shade, it looks more purple in person and less blue- the bottle shot is the most color accurate.
Northern Star Polish Electric Lime is an electric lime with multiple colors and shapes of glitter. I used two coats for the below photos along with Gelous + Out The Door. The formula was fabulous, not too thick or thin and no need for glitter fishing. This one is so fun!!
Last up is the cuticle oil- Northern Star Polish’s cuticle oils are packaged in 10 ml bottles with either a doe foot applicator ($3.00) or the new roller ball ($5.00 + shown here). According to the label, this oil is made up of:
Ingredients: Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Oil, Persea gratissima (Avocado) Oil; Oryza sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Oil, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Oil.
The oil was great, very moisturizing and had a pleasant, subtle scent. The roller ball did not deposit quite as much oil as the other roller ball applicators that I have, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing- sometimes you don’t want a ton of oil on your fingers, and this releases a nice small amount each time!
Overall, a fantastic first impression of this brand, I definitely recommend it! And again, these are set to come out at noon (central time) on June 15th, so make sure to mark your calendars!
