Hi, everyone! I’m quite excited to share some swatches with you for a brand that I hadn’t yet tried- Literary Lacquers. And warning, this post is going to be pic-heavy!
I was sent six polishes: Love you Forever, Raspberry Cordial, Woman of Pleasure, Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, Lake of Shining Waters & Bionic Mmmm-detector. Before we go into the specifics, I’d like to talk about the inspiration behind her brand. Literary Lacquers’ polishes are each inspired by a book, which I find really neat.
I have definitely slacked off on my love of reading over the past few years. When I was younger, I had a vociferous appetite for reading. I remember lugging home huge stacks of books from the library, devouring them within a few days and then begging my mom to take me back for more.
I continued that way until after high school. Working full time and getting more into the internet, I felt like I didn’t really have the time to read. I would get so distracted or sucked into internet forums, new shows on netflix, etc that it was really hard to make myself sit down and read.
Slowly the last couple of years I’ve gotten more into it- taking a book to read with me to work for breaks and lunches, getting so into it that as soon as I got home I wouldn’t even turn on my laptop but stick my nose right back into the book. I even purchased a kindle to make reading easier!
Then, I started this blog. Soon my time was spent swatching, reading other blogs, chatting with other bloggers in facebook groups & on social media. And although this has been fun, and I still enjoy it, it’s again become difficult to justify peeling myself away from other ‘obligations’ to sit down and read. My kindle is just used for netflix lately. This makes me sad, and is something I’ve been thinking about lately.
Anyways, so what I’m trying to say here was that I really love what Literary Lacquers has done. Although I have not read all of the books her polishes have been influenced by, the ones I have really brought me back to that time when I loved to read- I mean, polishes inspired by Where The Sidewalk Ends, Anne Of Green Gables and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? So awesome. I know you’re here for the polish and not my rambling so we’ll go ahead and get to it now!
Literary Lacquers Woman Of Pleasure is a periwinkle crelly with navy and lavender sparkle, matte light pink, large navy hexes, and magenta circle glitter.
I used three coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite. The formula was great, not too thick or thin and it applied easily, no fishing or fussing with the glitter.
This polish was inspired by Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure which was banned for over 200 years!
Literary Lacquers Lake Of Shining Waters is is a murky teal linear holographic polish. I used two coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite.
The formula was great, the first coat went on a little patchy but the second one evened everything out. There is just a tiny bit of VNL in these photos at two coats but it was not noticeable in person.
This is inspired by Anne of Green Gables, she didn’t feel the name of the local lake fit it’s beauty and renamed it to this! (This & the other holos were all more so in person- my camera has a hard time capturing it, sadly.)

Literary Lacquers Bionic Mmmm-Detector is a black jelly polish packed with aqua, teal, blue and green microglitter.
I used three coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite. The formula was good, a little thicker than the others but still easily manageble.
This was inspired by Vox which is funnily enough the famous book that Monika Lewinsky gave to Bill Clinton!
Literary Lacquers Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is a vibrant turquoise blue linear holographic polish with added fine holographic glitter. I used two coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite.
The formula was fantastic, it applied easily and was not too thick or thin. This polish was inspired by the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, of course!
And anyone who reads my blog probably knows what I’m going to say next- yes, I’ll be using this in a mermaid-inspired manicure in the future, haha! Actually, I can’t wait to use a lot of these in nail art.
This one was also so pretty that I felt it couldn’t be captured in photos alone and I took a quick video here on instagram.
Literary Lacquers Raspberry Cordial is a raspberry pink linear holographic polish with added holo glitter. I used two coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite.
The formula was great, applied easily and not too thick or thin.
This polish was also inspired by Anne of Green Gables.

Literary Lacquers Love You Forever is a medium blue crelly holo polish. I used two coats for the below photos with a top coat of seche vite.
I had just a tiny bit of VNL under these lights at two but it wouldn’t be noticeable at all in person The formula was great, just like all the others.
This polish was inspired by the children’s book Love You Forever.
What do you think? Which of these shades is your favorite? Do you have any favorite books you wish you could see a polish inspired by? Any book recommendations for me in general? Let me know in the comments!
