Hey guys! So, this post is a little bit different than my normal nail posts. I’m not really big into makeup, I tend to hate the feeling of it on my face and I’m naturally lazy (except about my nails….ha) so I really only wear it maybe once a month or less. But when I do wear it, I want it to look nice and I do enjoy trying out new products so I decided to try out another subscription box.
Last year, way before I started blogging I did Birchbox for a few months but I really didn’t like it. The samples were usually tiny and it seemed sometimes like it was more food/random life stuff than beauty. I’d heard varying things about IPSY but mostly good so I decided to give it a try. I will be reviewing each monthly bag here as long as I don’t end up canceling.
For those unfamiliar, IPSY is a monthly subscription service that is $10 a month. Once a month, they bill you & send you out a bag filled with deluxe samples & full-sized products. Once you sign up, you’re usually placed on a waiting list for 1-2 months before you actually get to start receiving the bags (don’t worry, they don’t charge you until you’re actually in). Side note, if anyone does decide they want to try it out, please sign up through my link here, I get points if you do! Okay, now onto the bag itself!
This month’s bag came in this classy black bag, I think it’s pretty cute. I travel fairly frequently, and I love little bags like this for organizing stuff in my suitcase and/or on my desk/in my closet at home!
The items I received in this month’s bag were:
Bright Up Your Life Eyeshadow Trio by POP Beauty in Smokin’ Hot. This kind of reminds me of Nyx’s eyeshadow trios. The formula on these eyeshadows is alright, a little chalky/powdery. But I’m an eyeshadow formula snob, they’re not bad compared to drugstore stuff, the color payoff was okay.
The One Stick by Be A Bombshell in Girl Crush. I do like stick blushes so this should be fun to play with. They say that it can also be used on eyes and lips but I’m not so sure about doing that, maybe I’m not adventurous enough yet. 😛 This was a little bit softer of a formula than I like for cream blushes but it wasn’t too bad.
Eye Blender Brush by Mirabella. I’m very loyal to my Sigma brushes but this feels soft and nice so I will definitely give it a try, you can never have too many blending brushes anyway!
Big Lip Pencil by J. Cat Beauty in Red Rose. I do love lip products in pencil form- they tend to be fairly long-lasting if a bit drying. The formula on this one was very soft, it applied easily and felt decently moisturizing. However, it was almost a little too soft/liquidy, it didn’t feel like it would stay in place as well as the Revlon Balmstains, for example. They say this can be used as a lip liner but I would never, it’s not sticky enough.
Holiday Frosted Gum Drops by JulieG in Sugar Plum Fairy. I’m not super into textured polishes, so this one is a bit of a miss for me but the color is pretty and I don’t hate texture, I just rarely reach for it.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with what I received out of this month’s options. I would have liked to try out the Ardell lashes but other than that I’m pretty satisfied and I will continue with next month’s IPSY bag. Again, if you want to try it out as well, please use my affiliate link! 🙂
Edit: Jenn from tw0sparr0wstryingtofindtheirway offered to send me her lashes, very kind of her! 😀
