I am happy to say that I FINALLY figured out the secret to gradients. Well, not so much the secret but what I was doing wrong! I feel like an idiot now, so I’ll share my fail in case anyone else might be like me- the first two people I told did say, “I wouldn’t even have thought about that!” so I felt a little better, haha.
What I had been doing was painting the base color & then painting just the additional colors onto the sponge, which made everything look not so blended. Once I began painting the base color onto the sponge as well, everything turned out great. It was that simple!
Anyways, for today’s look I created a sponge gradient using China Glaze Something Sweet as the base color, OPI Japanese Rose Garden as the mid tone and OPI That’s Berry Daring as the darkest color. After that, I stamped a design on top from the Pueen 27 plate using Wet N Wild Black Creme. Originally I was only going to do it as an accent nail but I liked it so much I went ahead and stamped over all of the nails.

What do you think? Have you had any ‘a-ha’ moments when struggling with nail art before? Let me know!
EDIT: A friend asked me how I do my gradients so I did a quick & dirty instavid tutorial here!
