(skip to bottom for nail art if you don’t want to read tl;dr about the name change!)
So. As you may notice, the blog has a completely new name & layout. Well, I decided to finally buy a domain, and I wasn’t too happy with the name Kirbalicious. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing when first creating the blog, when I was not too sure what direction it was going to go. It seemed safe, a play on my name, Kirby. But as time has gone on I wanted something that defined me a bit more, without literally defining my name! I figured better to change it now while I’m not too far into blogging than have it be a huge headache later!
Enter The Mercurial Magpie. There are a few reasons for this name. The main thing that I really wanted was the name magpie. Here’s what wikipedia has to say about Magpies:
In European folklore the magpie is associated with a number of superstitions surrounding its reputation as an omen of ill fortune. This reputation may derive from the bird’s widely believed tendency to “steal” shiny objects or its aggressive behaviour toward favoured songbirds.
Stealing shiny objects and aggresive behavior, eh? Sounds like a crazy polish lady, huh? Although I don’t think of myself as that type, I still think it’s a cute name and we all know we are entranced by the shinies that we absolutely must have!
Along the same lines, let’s take a look at Mercurial:
– Having the characteristics of eloquence, shrewdness, swiftness, and thievishness attributed to the god Mercury. Quick and changeable in temperament; volatile: a mercurial nature.
It fits, right? Or is it just me? Oh well, I like it! So far, it seems most of the technical issues have been taken care of, bloglovin seems to still post okay and my followers have transferred over without issue. I do have a backlog of a few posts so they will have my old url watermarked but that is okay as it will redirect here. The only trouble I have had so far is that the redirect to this site if you type in the url WITHOUT the www. in front is not yet working. From what I can tell, I followed google & godaddy’s instructions and it just may take up to 48 hours to update. I certainly hope so as I am not sure what I have set up wrong, if anything. If you’ve had a similar issue or can offer advice please let me know. If you notice or experience any other issues please feel free to let me know!
And now onto the reason you’re here: the nail polish! I finally got a chance today to play around with my Moyou London Suki 01 stamping plate (which can be purchased here). I do like them overall, but I was a little disappointed that some of the designs are so big that it would be impossible to fit on your nail. I also regret using 2 stamping colors so close in color, they blend in so the difference in color isn’t as obvious. Oh, well.
I first used a base of OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook, 2 coats. On top, I used Sally Hansen Instadri in Lickety-Split Lime and Lightening to stamp. I will fully admit my cuticles are still a hot mess right now, I’ve had a couple tears and just crappy condition overall. Gotta continue with the cuticle cream & oil daily, hopefully they’ll improve again soon.
The right hand!
What do you think of my nail art combo? Or my new name & layout? I’d love to hear from you!
Also, totally not nail polish related but who else was stoked to hear about Ben Nye being on dancing with the stars? I was so stoked I (badly) photoshopped myself into his photo. Future husband right there!
