Press Release - China Glaze The Giver Collection Available Now

Hi folks- I think people have seen this collection pop up in stores lately but I just got the official press release in. Are you planning on picking up any of these colors, or have you already? Capacity To See Beyond and Release look right up my alley! I also can't wait to see this movie, have been a huge fan of the book for a long time but I do need to re-read it soon!

----------

It’s time to “Colour Your Destiny” with the bright colors and rich textures of China Glaze’s exclusive The Giver nail polish collection.  Inspired by the most anticipated movie release of the summer, the collection combines bold and neutral crèmes, and a gorgeous glitter to create 12 limited edition shades.

Influenced by the powerful themes and message of the story, The Giver collection by China Glaze brings key moments and characters to colour, particularly the main character Jonas (portrayed by Brendon Thwaites) and his friend Fiona (portrayed by Odeya Rush) as he struggles to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his seemingly ideal community.  The film will open in theatres Friday, August 15, 2014.

China Glaze® The Giver limited edition nail polish collection is available now at beauty supply stores nationwide including Sally Beauty and Ulta stores.  Individual shades retail for $7.50 MSRP.

Aliquid Lacquer Yooper & Cherry Festival Swatches & Review

Aliquid Lacquer Yooper & Cherry Festival Swatches & Review

A little while ago, I showed you three polishes from Aliquid Lacquer's Two Pleasant Peninsulas collection, and after a lot of trying to reason with myself that I really shouldn't be buying any more polish right now, I finally gave in to the Polish Devil On My Shoulder and purchased two more from the collection: Yooper & Cherry Festival! Let's take a look!

Aliquid Lacquer Yooper & Cherry Festival Swatches & Review

Aliquid Lacquer Yooper is a  dark green jelly full of flecks of green, blue, gold and brown, plus holographic sparkle. I used three coats for the below photos, along with Out The Door. The formula was perfection, not too thick or thin and applied easily. This one would be awesome during fall!

Inspired by the wild forests, cold lakes and mountains of the Upper Peninsula. "Yooper" is an affectionate term for residents of "the U.P."

Aliquid Lacquer Cherry Festival is a bubblegum pink crelly with red and silver-green hexes, plus gold shimmer and flecks. I used two coats for the below photos, along with Out The Door. The formula was fantastic, applied easily and was the perfect consistency. I wasn't sure if I was going to love this one or not when I ordered it, but in person it's incredibly beautiful, the gold shimmer is so delicate but pretty!
Michigan produces more sour cherries than any other U.S. state (sour cherries are the kind used in pies and preserves). Every July, Traverse City holds a cherry festival that attracts over 500,000 visitors!

I also decided since I was going to wear this as a full manicure to stamp over it! I used Konad White and a design from the MoYou London Suki 02 plate and finished everything up with another coat of  Out The Door.

The Lacquer Legion Fandom Theme (Two Sailor Moon themed nail looks!)

The Lacquer Legion Fandom Theme (Two Sailor Moon themed nail looks!)

Hey, everyone! This is my third month participating in The Lacquer Legion (first month, garden theme here & second month holiday theme here), this month's theme was Fandom!

I have been heavily involved in a ton of different fandoms (pre-tumblr days, y'all...old lady here)(okay not really but 26 feels old often these days!!) practically my whole life. As I'm sure has been the case with most of us, the internet especially kind of made things explode, particularly for me with Harry Potter and Sailor Moon, my first two big fandoms.

Being able to go online and chat with other fans, read their fanfics, download images and fan art...it was the coolest thing! Not trying to sound like one of 'those' old people, but I think that's something that kids these days will never understand, being interested in something without really being able to go online and connect with others in the fandom. The internet changed all of that!

I could go on and on about both of those fandoms at the time (including my best friend's awful self-insert fanfiction of she and I marrying Remus and Sirius, respectively), but I decided what with the new Sailor Moon Crystal coming out, I'd focus on that! I still can remember spending hours in the html chat on usagimamoru.com, attempting to do my hair in the odango style with the tutorial on Save Our Soldiers and just connecting with other fans of the show. I remember when the manga was finally first released in waldenbooks and getting the first volume from 'Santa' for christmas. I remember graduating to fan-subbed VHS tapes (before they started actually airing them, minus Stars) and having to wait months to get the next few episodes.

Anyways, I truly could ramble on forever but to sum it all up, Sailor Moon has always been an important fandom for me, so I decided for this theme I had to do Sailor Moon inspired nails. In the end, I couldn't decide out of two ideas I had, so I decided to do them both!

The Lacquer Legion Fandom Theme (Two Sailor Moon themed nail looks!)

For the first design, I painted each nail a corresponding color glitter polish for each senshi & then painted their planet symbol on top using white acrylic paint.

Thumb/Sailor Moon - Yume Lacquer Rainbow Heart (this one was actually inspired by Sailor Moon! No pics though as it didn't turn out right.)
Index/Sailor Mercury - KBShimmer I Got A Crush On Blue (Bubbles!)
Middle/Sailor Venus - Triple Seven Polish Miss Atomic Bomb topped with Noodles Nail Polish Girl On Fire (I love Sailor Venus but I have almost no orange polishes.)
Ring/Sailor Jupiter - Reverie Nail Lacquer Secret Garden (I thought the green & pink glitter combo was perfect!!)
Pinkie/Sailor Mars - Model City Polish Strawberry Jam (Fiery red!)

For the second design, I painted a corresponding holo polish for each senshi and then applied a corresponding colored stud and silver shape stud:

Thumb/Sailor Moon  - Karma's Kiss Hot Momma + Crescent Moon (because...duh.)
Index/Sailor Mercury - Ice Polish Mulan + Circle (Once again...bubbles!)
Middle/Sailor Venus - Triple Seven Polish Miss Atomic Bomb + Star (Because she always wanted to be an idol/star!)
Ring/Sailor Jupiter - Literary Lacquers Lake Of Shining Waters + Flower (Because of her rose earrings!)
Pinkie/Sailor Mars - Northern Star Polish Burning Embers + Triangle (Because, um....I don't know. I ran out of shapes.)

What do you think? I like the first one a lot better but sometimes you never know what's going to work out until you actually get it on your nails! Do you remember what your first fandom was?
